Hello, and welcome to my webpage. I am Marc Joëts, an Economist & Professor of Finance and Machine Learning at IESEG School of Management, where I have been teaching since 2019. I am also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, an Associate Researcher at the Climate Economics Chair, and affiliated with the LEM-CNRS research center. In parallel, I serve as an expert/evaluator for the European Commission, advising on macroeconomics and econometrics. I also hold editorial responsibilities as Associate Editor for Empirical Economics and International Economics.
Before my current academic appointment, I held positions in both the public and private sectors. I was a Senior Economist in the International Macroeconomics Division at the Banque de France from 2015 to 2018, and later worked as a Senior Economist and Data Scientist at QuantCube Technology, a provider of real-time economic intelligence, from 2018 to 2019.
I earned my PhD in Economics from Université Paris Nanterre in 2013. My doctoral research was recognized with several distinctions, including the Louis Forest/Aguirre-Basualdo Award from the Chancellerie des Universités de Paris (2014), and multiple student paper awards from the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) and the French Association of Energy Economists (FAEE). I was also nominated as runner-up for the ANDESE Award in 2015. More recently, I received the prestigious OPEC Award for best energy research paper and the Springer Nature editorial contribution Award in 2025.
While my academic background is rooted in macroeconomics and econometrics, my current research focuses on two main areas: (i) the dynamics of commodity markets, with a particular emphasis on the fundamentals of the crude oil market; and (ii) research policy and integrity, including the study of science dynamics and the diffusion of ideas. My work has been published in leading academic journals and presented at numerous national and international conferences and seminars.
